Western Kingbird are found in much of the western United States, often seen perching on fences and utility lines. They are tough little birds, not afraid to take on much bigger birds or even livestock or people if they think they need to defend their territory. The red crest is is displayed so quickly that it is rarely seen or able to be photographed. Watch for the conspicuous white outer tail feathers in flight instead.
