Stellar's Jays used to be the only jays found West of the Rocky mountains and are common sights in picnic areas and campgrounds. They are named for a German explorer who traveled up and down the Pacific coast and into Alaska. Stellar's Jays are intelligent birds who store up food in caches and have excellent memory to relocate their food.
