The paperlike petals of the "Poppy" may seem delicate but these beautiful flowers are quite resilient. The seeds of the Poppy can remain under the ground waiting to sprout until the right conditions appear. This is why they grew in such large numbers following the battles in Europe in the World War. They ground that was disturbed in the fighting was exactly what the seeds needed to flourish in the devastation. Now poppies are recognized by all to remember those who lost their lives fighting.
This original mixed media artwork was drawn with a water soluble pen with my non dominant hand on a collaged substrate of papers including some from a vintage textbook on beekeeping. I added a wash of gesso before doing my drawing, then brought the piece to life with watercolors.
The artwork is 4" x 6" on paper and will be shipped to you in an archival sleeve so that you can frame it to your liking.
