Mixed Media Monday "It's all about the Layers" replay from January 30, 2023
This Mixed Media painting has several layers of color, but I didn’t paint them all directly on the background. Are you wondering how I got this effect? You may be surprised to hear that it's mostly done with plain old dollar store white tissue paper! Yep. When I am Dabbling with my gelli plate I like to keep some white tissue paper nearby to use if I get a little heavy handed with my paint and stenciling to lift off some of the excess so it will dry faster.
I was working on regular piece of paper not really intended for all those layers so I adhered it to a wood panel with mat medium before finishing the painting.
I sketched and painted the couple once everything was dry and then added the tree leaves with a stencil. I was liking the texture from the painted tissue paper layers so decided to lightly sand the figures and let bits of color and texture show through. So cool!
I would love to see what you create using layers of painted tissue papers! You could work in an art journal, use it as the starting point for a master board, create some Artist Trading Cards….anything! Please share so we can all be inspired!
I offered this original piece of art to the folks who subscribe to my Didi's Daily Dabble creative newsletter before anyone else got to see it. "Togetherness" is now available for purchase right here on my website. Please subscribe so you won't miss out on all the fun right as its happening!
